Measure for Measure

A rough stone
                        or a handful of sand
can level the scale,
as long as in the other balance pan
the wounded bird does not flutter.
Such is fulfilled the law of equilibrium
and all will be in order.
Though sand and rough stones
do not flutter,
neither are they gentle when cast in the air.

Un pedrusco
o un puñado de arena
pueden nivelar la balanza,
siempre que en el otro platillo
no se agite el pájaro herido.
Se cumplirá así la ley de equilibrio
y todo estará en orden.
Aunque arena y piedra
no palpiten
ni puedan ser amables en el aire.
