The Horizon Contemplates a Journey

That’s close enough.
All my life, all yours,
I’ve been here.
Hosting your sunsets.
And over the edge of me,
Your dreams
of you and she.

It’s not that I feel tied,
I’m not saying that.
Nor ungrateful,
I owe you so much.
But my wings
(can you see them?),
that still lake?
Those misty hills?
They need to spread themselves.

The sweeping plains of Oklahoma
Have a certain attraction,
Or the arctic tundra.
Even the majesty of the Rockies,
Or a cityscape, at night.
Sometimes a horizon has to do
What a horizon has to do.

Feel free to follow,
But keep your distance.

That’s close enough.
