Delfina Acosta, poet, narrator and journalist, was born in Asunción, Paraguay in 1956. In addition to being a pharmaceutical industry chemist, she has dedicated herself to literary creation since an early age. Her first poems appeared in Poesía Itinerante (1984), a collective publication of the Manuel Ortiz Guerrero Poetry Workshop. After that, she published two poemarios: Todas las voces, mujer…(1986; Prize "Amigos del Arte") and La Cruz del Colibrí (1993). Part of her poetic oeuvre has figured in national and foreign anthologies. In 1987, in the "Juegos Florales" –organized contest for the municipality of Asunción on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the founding of Asunción—her work Pilares de Asunción was winner of the prize "Mburucuyá de plata".
