In the
early 1950s, Marty Matz (1934-2001) was part of San Francisco’s
North Beach poetry scene. He read with Kerouac, Ginsberg, Corso
and Kaufman, and left for Mexico just before the great cultural
explosion of "The Beat Generation." Almost
over night, reputations were made that lasted lifetimes, while
Marty Matz always managed to elude fame but not infamy, and did
enjoy the respect and admiration of other artists. He died
in October 2001 after watching the twin towers collapse,
having made preparations for this collection to be published. Contact: Romy@goodie.org "This book is the Beat Generation's big gun. It goes off all over the world. The language is elegant. The poet is sure of himself. The world is sure of the poet." – Bob Kaufman for Matz's book, Time Waits |
