Joop Bersee was born in 1958 in Holland. In 1982 he started writing poetry (some of it was published in Holland) and in 1989 he settled in South Africa. He began writing in English in 1991. He is the editor of Southern Rain Poetry - a compilation of contemporary South African poetry (by invitation only). It contains previously published and new work by some of South Africa's leading poets.
