Maralinga Rap

Shadow fell early on the blistered sand
Darkening crazed templates of a dingo clan
Every rat and kanga knew the time had come
To scarper from the precinct of the human sun.

A growth bedecks the throat of the full-blood black
It chokes down his protest where the skin does crack
They say she cannot wander on her tribal land no more
The boffins from the lab have up & slammed that door.

They claim they gave out warning with a few pathetic signs
Now they grade polluted soil for miles and miles
But the cost of the alternative is very very high
Over Adelaide toxic-dust still rattles from the sky.

Yet another cancer town in our brave scheme
From politicians' tongues no rhetoric redeems
That ardent house with hosannas sung in reverent refrain
Still holds its cloth umbrella to the nuclear rain.
