Hardball

I looked at a picture
of a hand holding a ball.
Thoughts sprung to mind
of civilization's hold on our world.

We've done a lousy job
protecting our heritage,
lost contact with family values,
become money hungry
grabbers of things,
misplaced priorities,
pressured our children
and wasted our resources.

What will our youth
inherit from this generation?
Nature screams her anguish
and we turn our backs.
