[Island Imaginary]

island imaginary    antigua buoyant in the atlantic absence of my saltwater understanding    its coastline crowded    brown palms porters and questions marks    winding around my left hemisphere / here language and sights left captive / half-broken gone aquatic    it's a small place    once occupied ever toured    a mind's / in-dependence    tortola too    I've read or dreamt the rest memory refuses    boy forgotten later re constructs / should re visit
            return to forward
            other tangible me's in
            stalks laying / hyphens sideways
            behind a house that stayed my father
            backyard yawning sugar cane at a sun    all once cut
living and wintering family    the soundness of my name    they know only
yankee me    california-born    angelino    too basic an entrance
dress me in exits and nations    dredd my hair in lines of longitude
then turn me on a globe turning
see if I recognize I
from I    and an island
from punctuation.
