Happily Ever Afters
 
I believed
in fairy tales
in romance
soul mates
and kindred spirits
when I was young
 
Now I am older
and ponder,
perhaps
we only serve
another’s needs
for a twinkling of time
 
and then leave
physically, emotionally
by choice or by death
 
I don’t think older
is necessarily wiser
 
nor does it assuage
the memories
of fairy tales
