Rasma Haidri grew up in the American south, the daughter of a first generation Norwegian immigrant mother and an Indian immigrant father. The blending of these three cultures influenced the major theme of her writing: identity and connection - in other words, exploring the essence of home. Having lived in France, Wisconsin and Hawaii, she now makes her home on the Arctic coast of Norway. She conducts courses in creative writing and meditative writing, does freelance graphic design and teaches college English. Her writing has won awards from The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, The University of Western Michigan, The Southern Women Writers’ Association, Passages North and Mindfire Renewed. Her fiction, poetry and essays have appeared in literary journals including Nimrod, Prairie Schooner, Fourth Genre, Fine Madness, Kalliope and Runes. Anthologies featuring her work include The Writing Group Book, Chicago Review Press, Proposing on the Brooklyn Bridge, Grayson Books, Waking up American, Seal Press, Only the Sea Keeps, Bayeux Arts, Fresh Water, Michigan State University Press and Poem Revised, Mario Street Press. The poem “Tell Me About One” and “Disguises” are from her book length collection of meditative poetry, Ocean: A Spiritual Journey.
