After a storm

A layer of sun on the Atlantic Sea gives
a friendly impression, the giant heaves
softly today but flotsam flung far ashore
and torn fishing nets tell of a violent past.

The tsunami hasting across the Pacific
ocean didn't disturb deep-sea fishing
vessels it was when it met shallow water
that it became a wall of liquid death.

Indian ocean in fury, drowns Bangladesh
Bay; water buffaloes float belly up rice
harvest destroyed the homeless dies of
distress and hunger.

The Arctic seas' deadly cold green sea
breathes ice crystals and makes iron
whistle in pain pity the fisherman that
falls into its embrace no time for prayers

Watery giants bigger than the terra firma
have an abundance of life and wish no
one any harm, helpless as children they
are when the wind in anger blows
