driving west

across the desert

ahead of us
the sun plunges into
the great salt lake

mountains glimmer to
the east
behind us

we say nothing to
each other

content in circumnavigating
the globe together

in watching the sun
go down one
more time

and

in hoping it'll
rise again
tomorrow
